Late at night on December 21st my sister-in-law Melissa delivered a baby boy named Baran Daniel. Much to everyone's surprise, he was very sick upon arrival. So sick, that the doctors were doubtful he would survive. He had ingested miconium in the womb and was suffering from brain damage and damage to his vital organs. We were all devastated. They immediately transported him to another hospital where he would receive the best possible care for such a sick baby. They put a cooling cap on his head to slow down his brain for a few days, and it became a waiting game. During this time, we urged as many people to pray for little Baran as we possibly could. He was put on prayer lists at several churches. Friends of friends began praying, even strangers! After Baran's cap came off, it seemed like we received a little bit of good news every day. His heart, kidneys, liver, and lungs were rebounding. He needed less and less intervention each day. His brain tests were coming back negative. We traveled to Chicago to visit the new family over New Years. Here are some pictures from the NICU where Baran is staying.

A couple of days later we visited again. This time he was off of supplimentary oxygen and in a normal bed! Just look at that adorable face!
Today would have been Melissa's due date. In 13 days Baran has truly amazed his parents, his family, and his doctors. We are hopeful that he will come home very soon. Baran is a true testament to the power of prayer, the power of faith, and the power of God. He is our Christmas miracle!
